I Got My Vaccine!

Dear Mom,

I am back at school! It was sad packing up at home and heading to Bradley for the last time. I drove with my graduation cap and gown in the back of my car and it made graduation feel so real. I am excited but also nervous all at the same time. I know it’ll be a great experience but I will miss all of my friends down here. It will be weird having us all in different states.

I have some exciting news! I got my first Covid-19 vaccination! I am super grateful that I was able to receive one because I know it’s such a privilege. My arm hurt for two days but the benefits will make it so worth it. Thankfully, I didn’t have any bad reaction or negative side effects other than that. It’s sad to think that you never got to see the vaccine be released because you were so hopeful to see the end of this pandemic. At the same time, I’m glad you didn’t have to stress about me finding an appointment or having a reaction.

The process of getting it done was super strange though. It honestly made me feel like a lab rat. I got mine done at a local pharmacy, but rather than having each person enter a consulting room to do it individually, the pharmacist put us all in a room and walked around with a cart to inject us. Not only was I with 10 strangers, but we were in a fully glass room. To top it all off, there were cinder blocks holding the chairs in place which made it look a little spooky but I know it’s for social distancing. Finally, when I actually got the vaccine the pharmacist put a circle bandaid looking thing and did the vaccine through that which I thought was interesting. I have never had a vaccine done that way before. At least he used hand sanitizer between each person and I was second in the group to receive it.

Overall, I am grateful that I will be able to receive both of my vaccines in time for graduation and my road trip. It’s officially 32 days until graduation and 33 until my road trip! I am beyond excited but I am also a little nervous about the timing of it all. I am trying to do as much research on bears as possible so I know what to do with our food and all.

Love always,

Lacey

  1. I just got my vaccine as well! It was such a weird feeling and I agree about the arm pain. I cannot believe we are so close to graduation, I do not know what I am going to do being so far away from the people I have met here. We are almost to the end!!!

  3. I got my vaccine this week as well, I'm glad that you didn't have any major side effects. I was super exhausted but overall okay. I agree with the feeling of being like a lab rat. I know it's the right thing to do but I can't help but feel nervous about it. To quote the wonderful Taylor Swift "You don't know what you don't know." Also the idea of graduation being so close is crazy, I knew it would happen some day but it almost feels unreal.

  4. This is Tynita king. That is great. At first I didn’t want the vaccine. However, majority of my family have received both vaccinations. Also a lot my friends have theirs as well. So I am thinking about getting one through bradley
